The hoofbeats of your mount strike like pearl beads from a broken necklace.

Add 1 automatic success per 2m spent. Ignore 1 point of mobility penalty from your mount’s barding or armor.

Essence 1

Heaven-Racing Leap

Cost: 4m; Mins: Ride 2, Essence 1

Type: Supplemental (Movement); Duration: Instant

Your mount soars skyward, buoyed by an infusion of Air Essence.

Choose one:

  • Spend your reflexive movement to give your mount a free jump 1 range band in any horizontal direction;
  • Enhance any movement roll so that for every 10 you roll you may reroll one failed die that didn’t come up as a 1.

AIR AURA – You may leap vertically as well as horizontally.


Tread Rooted in Life

Cost: 4m; Mins: Ride 3, Essence 1

Type: Reflexive; Duration: One scene

Prerequisite Charms: None

You and your mount are in perfect harmony with each other and with the world around you.

Ignore all plant-based environmental penalties for all movement actions. Any other penalties associated with plant life are lowered by 2.

REPURCHASE (Ride 3, Essence 2) – This Charm gets the Stackable and Variable keywords with the following options, in addition to the plant-based option:

  • AIR: Ignore penalties for wind, ice, and storms.
  • EARTH: Uneven, rocky terrain or desert.
  • WATER: Immersion in water or slippery surfaces.

Great Heart Companion

Cost: 3m; Mins: Ride 2, Essence 1

Type: Reflexive; Duration: Instant

Your heart and your mount’s heart beat as one. Your bond is unbreakable.

Give your mount +2 Resolve against fear or yourself +1 Defense against an unhorse gambit.

WOOD AURA – You get both benefits and the Charm lasts until you lose your Aura.

Essence 2

Cloud-Harnessing Technique

Cost: 5m; Mins: Ride 3, Essence 2

Type: Reflexive; Duration: Until next turn

Prerequisite Charms: Heaven-Racing Leap

Your mount soars as though on a cloud over that which would stand in its way.

Your mount may move across surfaces that could not normally bear its weight and ignores all difficult terrain.


Dance of the Jade Bridle

Cost: 4m; Mins: Ride 3, Essence 2

Type: Simple; Duration: Instant

Prerequisite Charms: Great Heart Companion

Your radiant presence is comforting to the wild beasts. They bow their heads to you after a few moments of glory.

Take a few minutes to interact with the target animal, then roll with Ride against its Resolve. If you succeed, it forms a minor Tie of loyalty toward you and will allow you to ride it.

You do not instantly fully tame it, only convince it to let you ride it and obey your commands while mounted. Full taming requires extended interaction and can be accelerated with the use of Survival Charms.


Rearing Stallion Provocation

Cost: 3m, 1wp; Mins: Ride 3, Essence 2

Type: Simple; Duration: Instant

Prerequisite Charms: Dance of the Jade Bridle

Your presence is disquieting to your target’s mount. They know it is not their nature to ride against you.

Make a (Charisma + [Presence, Survival, or Ride]) threaten roll with double 9s against an animal mount. If you succeed, the mount reflexively moves one range band in a direction of your choice, taking its rider with it. It won’t move into obvious danger (ie., a cliff or into a tiger’s maw), but it can move into perils it isn’t aware of. Mounts cannot spend WP to resist this unless they are trained war mounts or they have a Major or Defining Intimacy to their rider to oppose it.

SPECIAL – This Charm can be flurried.


Reins-Like-Roots Unity

Cost: 3m; Mins: Ride 3, Essence 2

Type: Reflexive; Duration: Instant

Prerequisite Charms: Great Heart Companion

Use this Charm in response to an unhorse gambit. Increase the difficulty of the gambit by 1 and take away 1 success for every 1 your opponent rolls.

WOOD AURA – This Charm lasts until you lose your Aura.


Creation-Turning Hoof

Cost: 5m; Mins: Ride 4, Essence 2

Type: Supplemental (Rush); Duration: Instant

Prerequisite Charms: Tread Rooted in Life

Your mount’s hooves beat down on your target as if he were dirt and sand.

Your opponent takes a -(your mount’s speed) penalty on their opposing roll.


Ebony Spur Technique

Cost: 2m, 3i; Mins: Ride 5, Essence 2

Type: Reflexive; Duration: Instant

Keywords: Decisive-only, Restriction (1/scene), Wood

Prerequisite Charms: Creation-Turning Hoof

Your mount leaps toward an ally with a burst of thorns and petals.

Use this Charm when an enemy makes a successful attack against an ally of yours within short range of you. You may reflexively move 1 range band toward your target (it doesn’t count as your reflexive move) and make a decisive attack with (your mount’s Speed) bonus dice. This counts as your attack action for the round.


Ass-to-Elephant Method

Cost: 3m, 1wp; Mins: Ride 5, Essence 2

Type: Supplemental (Mount’s Feat of Strength); Duration: Instant

Prerequisite Charms: Great Heart Companion

Under your command, even a humble ass can pull a mountain.

Add (your mount’s Speed) to its Strength and to its pool when it attempts a feat of strength.
